A Little Break with Canvas: Discovering the Charm of Oil Painting Through a Cat Artwork

Even though September is here, the hot summer days just seem to linger on.

Today, I wanted to share a light post for anyone looking to enjoy an oil painting charm break from the end-of-summer heat!

Twice a month, I visit a local studio to enjoy oil painting. Today, I’d like to give you a small sneak peek at the piece I am currently working on—though it is still very much a work in progress!

Believe it or not, this little cat looked like this just four months ago:

And then, it evolved into this:

Oil painting requires adding layer upon layer of paint over time, so there is still a long way to go before it's finished.

What I love most about oil painting, however, is that no matter what mistakes you make, you can always start over.

If a section doesn't turn out quite right, there's no need to worry. Once the paint dries, you simply layer a new color right on top. Don't you think that’s a wonderful philosophy?

In a society where people often fear making mistakes, having a medium where you can start over as many times as you like gives you the courage to embrace new challenges without fear.

Bit by bit, through steady brushstrokes, a painting eventually reaches completion without you even realizing it. It’s all about honoring the process.

That is the true charm of oil painting that keeps me coming back to the easel.
